The Friends of St Lawrence primary school is a group of parents/carers with children at the school which organises the social and fundraising activities. As a parent/carer of a child at St Lawrence you are automatically a member of The Friends and are welcome to join any meetings, fundraising events and social evenings.
Each year in September, The Friends have an Annual General Meeting (AGM). A committee is elected by parents/carers to organise and run events for the academic year. The Committee comprises Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, two representatives per class, a staff representative plus other interested parties.
The key positions this year are:
- Chair - Emma King
- Secretary – Hedeel Munden
- Treasurer – Emma Weare
- Committee members - Debbie Goddard and Lorna Ryan
In 2018-19, we were able to supply much needed laptops for the school and invaluable software, furniture and supplies for the library extension, as well as fund a new outdoor shelter and wellington boot area for Forest School. In 2019-2020, the school has identified a project to improve the outdoor space including a sensory garden and well-being area (details are yet to be finalised) and also new PE equipment. Previously, the Friends have financed the refurbishment of the Key Stage 1 and year 3 outdoor learning areas, the library refurbishment, purchased IT resources including 30 iPads and 20 laptops as well as providing each teacher with an iPad, and supported various science and art workshops. As you can see, the list of how we support the school is extensive and we are incredibly proud of the difference we have made to our children's school experience.
We are always looking for new ideas to raise money and events to keep the children entertained and we always need help in organising and running the various events throughout the year, so please speak to a member of the Committee or your class representative.
The Friends currently meets every half term with the meeting typically lasting from 1.5 to 2 hours, during which time we review past activities, discuss upcoming events and expenditure requests and brainstorm new fundraising ideas. We would love to see you there. If you can’t make it but still want to contribute to The Friends, please do contact us on the email@example.com.
We also have a Facebook page where we regularly post news about up coming events. This is open for current parents and carers only and is a closed group. If you have children in the school and wish to join the Facebook group, you can find us by searching for 'Friends of St Lawrence Primary school' and requesting to join.
Additionally, there is a regular Friends newsletter which is emailed out by the school office. Any communication for The Friends can be left in one of the Friends post boxes which can be found either in the playground on the back wall of the school or on the wall outside the front office. You can also email: firstname.lastname@example.org
We are incredibly proud of the support we are able to give the school and the impact we have made to the children’s school experience. Please do support us with our future fundraising, every little bit of help can make a huge difference.
