School Trips

Our philosophy is for the residential trips to be inclusive for all our pupils and to make them interesting, varied, educational, progressive, fun and affordable.

We hope our programme over the coming academic year will enable all our pupils to access this extremely important element of the school curriculum and give all children the confidence to stay away from the family home from an increasing amount of time.  As a school we expect all our pupils to attend these residential trips and will help in any way we can to make this happen.

Year 3   Youth Hostel at Holmbury St Mary - 1 night stay

July - Estimated cost per pupil £65.00 for full board and all activities.
The children will be learning how to identify flora and fauna, cycles and patterns of the seasons, creating habitats for animal and insects and learning to recognise tracks and trails left by woodland inhabitant, over 2 full days of planned activities.

Year 4   Hooke Court, Beaminster, Dorset - 2 night stay

June - Estimated cost per pupil £200.00 for full board and all activities.
Our history topic in the spring is Roman Britain and this trip offers a range of activities to support the children’s learning in this topic. The programme teaches the children all about life in the Roman times as well as giving them an opportunity to spend time living and feeling like a Roman in the Ancient History Settlement. There are a range of different excursions and workshops based on the Romans in Britain, which will make the learning come alive for our children!

Year 5   Brenscombe Outdoor Centre, Wareham, Dorset - 3 night stay

April - Estimated cost £310.00 for full board and activities

Brenscombe is an activity and adventure based centre – the children will take part in water sports, abseiling, rifle shooting and much more. The trip will also include visits to Corfe Castle and Durlston Park. This trip supports the children’s learning through curriculum links to Science (plant diversity and seed dispersal), History (introduction to the Vikings) and Geography (map work and settlement).

Year 6   Sustainability Centre, South Downs, East Meon, Hampshire – 4 night stay

June - Estimated cost   £300.00 for full board and activities
This trip is designed to give the children the opportunity to explore many aspects of sustainability including staying in an Eco-Lodge.  During the stay the children will cover a number of elements of the DT, Geography & Science Year 6 National curriculum around renewable energy, sustainability and Fair Trade.  Activities will include looking at sustainability in building designs; renewable energy and resources; a trip to a sustainable farm and proposed wind turbine site; mapping skills using eight points of a compass and grid references as well as providing opportunities for children to use their creative skills by investigating and designing products.

Day Trips

We always try to enhance the relevance of the pupils’ learning and where appropriate off-site visits are arranged as an extension to the curriculum with a view to broadening the children’s learning experiences. Some trips are local; Effingham village, Polesden Lacey National Trust, Bocketts Farm, RHS Wisley gardens, local libraries and garden centres. Others are further afield and include Winchester Science Museum, Bough Beech Reservoir, Arundel Castle and Butser Ancient Farm.

All school trips are organised well in advance and carefully planned to meet appropriate health and safety requirements. Participation requires parental consent and where there is a cost parents are invited to make a voluntary contribution. We encourage all children to participate and if cost is an issue there is the possibility of financial help available.
